On this day, Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vysya men change the old Yajnopavita(sacred thread worn during Upanayana). They worship Saptha(seven) rishis(sages) and pray for good health wealth and prosperity. They chant Gayathri manthra before and after wearing the sacred thread.
The food to be prepared during this festival are vermicelli /any payasa is offered to god and later served as Prasadam by family members.
