During this period special offerings are offered to souls by Tharpana (Uncooked rice, black seasame seeds, water are left by calling all ancestors along with their nakshatra). The ritual is conducted by men whose father has passed away. The food items are kept accessible to animals and birds like the crow believing that our ancestors comes in different form and partake of the offerings.
During this festival food items like Masala vada, Payasa are prepared and offered to ancestors.
