Rangoli is drawn where the idol is kept. All the abishekham items are kept in a plate. The plate is filled with uncooked rice and the Ganesha idol is kept on it. The abhishekam is started by putting some flowers and some drops of water. A new cloth is used to decorate the idol with flowers, garke, tulsi leaves. Start the ashtothra with flowers, do the mangalrathri take blessings from Ganesha. Keep the prasadam which includes the favorite dishes of Ganesha, such as modakam made of jaggery, fruits and coconut.
In South India sweets like kadabu, payasa, idli saguu and Kosumbari are prepared and offered to the family and friends gather for a traditional meal. Friends and neighbours are invited to see Ganesha and Thambulam & husli is offered to them. Some people keep the Ganesha idol for one day, others for 3 days while some keep it for 5 days. Quite often communities come together to install a Ganesha idol for a neighbourhood.
Draw rangoli and fill the drum or any container with water, before immersing idol into the water a pooja is done for both Gowri and Ganapathi. Curd rice is tied as bhutthi (curd rice without salt is kept in banana leaf and tied) for both the divine mother and son. A pooja is done to the drum filled with water with turmeric, kumkum, flowers and agarbhathi. Goddess gowri is first immersed, followed by Ganapthi by screaming "Ganapathi bhapa mooraya" then we have to close the lid. A few days later we will pour that immersed water to plants. We request everyone to bring Eco-Friendly Ganapathi (not using Plaster of Paris, or painted by harmful chemical paints) so that it is not harming to the environment.
