Culture in QATAR

Just like any other countries in the GCC, Qatar also takes their culture very seriously. Their culture is strongly influenced by the Arab culture with a small influence from India East Africa and pacific gulf. The official language of Qatar is Arabic and 95% of the Muslims in Qatar are sunni Muslims.

Food and Cuisine

As Qatar follows Sharia laws pork and alcohol cannot be brought into the country, The Qatari cuisine is influenced by the Arabic tradition, they are greatly influenced by the Iranian and Indian cuisines with added delicacy of sea foods and dates.

Although alcohol is not banned in the country Muslims are restricted from buying and consuming them strict actions are taken if a Muslim is caught consuming alcohol or pork.

Kite Festival

The International Kite Festival takes place in katara, Doha and attracts visitors from many international destinations with 2 days of frenziedly wind-driven flying, culture and art, both ground-based and air-based.

Qatar Open Tennis

Qatar Open tennis championship is one of the most popular tennis tournaments in the Middle East and it is the ceremonial opening of the ATP World Tour season. The Matches begins every year in the last week of December and run through January first week with 32 players in the singles play-offs and 16 teams compete for the doubles title.

Qatar Marine Festival

The Qatar Marine Festival is an annual cultural, educational and water centric extravaganza intended to promote Qatari marine heritage and cultural identity. The marine festival is the innovation of the Qatar Marine Festival Organizing Committee (QMFOC) and represents the jewel in the crown of QMFOC's activity calendar.

Annual Doha Cultural Festival

The Doha Cultural Festival is held in March and is the biggest event of its kind, attracting hundreds of tourists every year into Qatar. The event showcases the cultural aspect of the region. The event is held under the guidance of H.H. Al Sheikh Hamad Ben Khalifa Al Thani, the Prince of Qatar.

Doha International Trade Fair

The Doha International Trade Fair is an annual event in Qatar held at Qatar International Exhibitions Center, Doha. The one-week event involves participation of traders from across the globe. The event has helped in promoting Qatar further as a tourist destination.

Garangao Children Festival

Garangao children festival is traditionally celebrated throughout the Middle East after breaking of the fast on the 14th of Ramadan and will be marked in Qatar with weeklong festivities.

Annual Halal Hal Qatar Festival

The annual Halal Qatar Festival, which is held in the southern area of Katara cultural village every year in March, features animal husbandry, the practice of selectively raising and breeding livestock, their health and care.

IAAF Diamond League

The IAAF Diamond League is a series of track and field event held from 2010 onwards at Qatar Sports Club Stadium in Doha. The IAAF Diamond League is a precious asset for the IAAF and the League is now in its fifth season.

Losail International Circuit

Lusail International Circuit (also Losail International Circuit) is a motor racing circuit located on the coast, in the northern part of the municipality of Al Daayen, 23 km north of Doha.

Wherever the visitors go in Doha they can take notice of "Qatar national vision 2030." The country is organizing itself for the transfer from a carbon-based economy to a knowledge based economy. Literacy is already 97%, but Qatar government plans for 100%.

Qatar Masters Golf Tournament

The prestigious Qatar Masters is a golf tournament hosted by the Doha golf club since 1998. This is one of three European tour golf tournaments which are staged in Middle East, the others being the Omega Dubai Desert classic and the Abu Dhabi HSBC golf tournament.


They follow a typical Arabic dressing style where men wear a thawbs over a loose pant with loose headdress, a ghutra, which comes in white or red and white. Around the ghutra is a black rope called an agal which holds it in place.
The women wear a long black cloak over their dress and cover their heads with a hijab, A burqa is sometimes worn to conceal their face.
