Every year thousands of Indian families gather across the US to celebrate Diwali. The Indian festival of lights is familiar to people across America. Diwali is considered by the Indian Hindus as the start of New Year. This year October 17 is declared as the day for celebrating ‘Festival if Lights’. Diwali is considered as chain of lights and promotes health, knowledge and peace. Most of the calendars in America mark this festival as national.

Hindu Americans were very delighted to learn that the US senate have recognized their festival as worldwide event. The historical significance of the Diwali celebrated by Indians has been recognized by the US House of representatives. The resolution is passed by the US senate introduced by half a dozen congressmen to greet the Hindus and people of Indian origin. The resolution conveys wishes to Americans and people across the globe celebrating ‘Festival of Lights’. “These resolutions are symbolic, but we hope that the momentum of this event- where hundreds of legislators voted to recognize a Hindu festival - will inspire Hindu Americans everywhere to work towards Diwali‘s recognition at the state level, having the festival listed on more calendars, and taking the opportunity to spread awareness of their faith and its festivals at their schools and places of work,” the Hindu American Foundation statement read.
