The mastermind of 1984 Indian Airlines hijack to Lahore has reportedly taking refuge in Canada from past 14 years. Parminder Singh Saini, now 46, is facing deportation to India is willing to practice law is Canada. He was the ring leader of five Sikh youths, who hijacked an Indian airlines plane from Srinagar to Lahore via Delhi in 1984. The hijack drama ended with Saini‘s team surrendering to Pakistani authorities. The Lahore court sentenced him to death but later death sentence was transformed to ten years rigorous imprisonment.

When he was released and asked to leave Pakistan, Saini illegally entered Canada with fake Afghan passport in the name of Balbir Singh. He earned BA degree and a Law degree, while simultaneously fighting deportation order. He has been listed as a national threat in Canada. Saini has requested the Law Society of Upper Canada to permit him to practice law. Appearing before the Law Society, Saini expressed his deep regret about his past. Opposing Saini‘s application to practise law, Law Society advice Susan Heakes said in the local Toronto Star, “Over the course of the last 15 years, courts and tribunals (in Canada) have declared that he is a danger to the public and security in Canada and that he shouldn‘t remain.”
