USA celebrates ‘America Day’ in Indian cities to improve cross-culture relationship. Cultural exchange programmes were organised in India for the American diplomats. The celebration lasted for ten days. The diplomats visited 23 cities including Ahmedabad, Bhilai, Indore, Nanded, Raipur and Ujjain. ‘America-Day’ was organised by American Centre. The aim of this event is to promote mutual understanding and cultivate common interest between the citizens of the America and India. US Consul General Paul Folmsbee told ‘The Economic Times’ that “Both of our democracies enjoy a rich and vibrant relationship that is premised on mutual respect and shared values. Relations between our two countries are stronger than they have ever been.”
The agenda of the programme is to provide scientific kits for the schools visited by diplomats as part of the Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE). GLOBE was started in India in 2000 when an agreement was signed between the US Embassy and India‘s Ministry of Environment, Folmsbee said. It‘s a joint venture of the US embassy and India's ministry of environment. The main purpose of circulating scientific kits is to collect data and utilize it for global scientific research. The students learn about science and environmental issues by exercising these kits.
