The attack on Indian students in Australia poses a serious threat to the Indo - Australian relationship. Recently four more Indian students were attacked in Melbourne. The attack comes as the Victoria‘s Premier John Brumby plans to visit India to repair Australian reputation. The trouble makers are constantly targeting Indian students in Australia. Seventy people took part in the recent assault and the attackers told the victims ‘ you Indians just go back to your country ’. The latest attack is a blow to the Australian diplomatic image in the subcontinent. Australian Prime Minister said that breaking laws by anyone in the country is a punishable offence. “The laws are there for a purpose and that is for all citizens to adhere to them’ quoted Kevin Rudd.

The recent attack has resulted in a huge uproar in India. Writer and Activist Farrukh Dhondy urged Indians in Australia for “some form of retaliation” the Australian newspaper THE AGE reported. “There really has to be some form of retaliation from the Indian community as a whole. India has to stand up,” he told ABC Radio. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd clearly said that Indian students should not attempt in breaking laws heeding to any provocative statements. There is no point in Indian students fighting back and create trouble for themselves. India‘s External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna is assured by the Australian officials about the safety of Indian students. Australia is trying hard to project itself as a safe place for foreign students amidst all these attacks.
