Indian labourers facing injustice abroad

NRIs urge Indian Government to take action

Sep 17, 2009

Recruiting agencies in India are trapping job seekers and charging more than fifty thousand rupees for services. The labourers are cheated and left jobless in foreign countries. In the name of `‘foreign job’ these recruiters are exploiting the aspirants. The government should take actions against the recruitment criminals in India and also black list their agents abroad. Indian labourers are earning less than they earn in India, and are forced to reside in pathetic locations. Thousands of labourers are under depression and often commit suicide. Last year (2008) eighty four Indian labourers committed suicide in UAE. Indian government should safeguard these labourers through effective monitoring of illegal recruiting agents.

Ninety percent of the remittance of overseas Indian labourers is spent by their depending families back home. NRIs constantly urge the Finance Ministry to introduce a Systematic Investment Plan. The ministry has not shown any interest while proposing budget. If the government takes initiative to develop such scheme then the labourers can save the wealth for their future life in India. The NRI workers insurance declared by the government still has unclear details and implementation is pending. The insurance scheme is essential to safeguard the families of diseased labourers.
