Italy welcomes Legal Punjabi Immigrants

7,70,00 Indian immigrants in Italy

Italian ambassador Roberto Toscano was recently in Chandigarh. According to him, there are 7,70,00 Indian immigrants legally residing in Italy. Most of them are from Punjab. Also there is a huge population of illegal immigrants of more than 40,000. He mentioned that Punjabi Sikhs have become part of Italian society and mentioned few success stories of Punjabi immigrants in Italy. About illegal immigration of Punjabi youths Roberto told that, Italian government has started looking in to the matter and assured Punjab government that all possible help for such people in Italy will be provided. Italy attracts 42.3 million tourists annually. This time it is expecting to tap more tourists from India.

Italy may not be geographically close to India but has maintained close relationship. It has its visa office in Chandigarh to serve Punjabi migrants. Over the years migration of Punjabi youths has increased. India and Italy are traditional friends with ancient cultural heritage. They share fundamental values of democracy, civil rights and human rights. Bilateral cooperation is strong between the nations without any outstanding problems so far. Illegal immigrants do not get free health or education services. The best formula for successful life abroad is legal immigration. The Italian ambassador stressed these points while discussing about Indian immigrants in Italy.
